Welsh football notebook, Thursday 23 June

Bale transfer talks; Flint Town; Connah’s Quay and more in Thursday’s notebook…

A bit later than usual getting this posted, not a great deal of domestic news but Gareth Bales’ proposed move to Cardiff City appears to be inching closer towards becoming reality.

NOTE: Whilst he won’t be short of potential offers, my gut feeling is that this unlikeliest of moves might just come to fruition. For Bale to have met Morrison in person, you would expect there to already be at least a basic level of understanding or proposed contractual agreement in place, overcoming what is obviously the biggest hurdle to such a move. Whether the rigours of the Championship is the right environment for Bale to get into optimal condition ahead of the World Cup remains to be seen and it’s debatable whether playing in the second tier will get him to his very best, but should this move transpire, it’ll be one of the most incredible transfers in living memory.

Former Llandudno and Caernarfon Town manager Iwan Williams has returned to the Cymru Premier after joining new Flint Town United manager Lee Fowler’s backroom staff.

Williams will join the Silkmen as first-team coach and said: “I’m delighted to be returning to the Welsh system as I feel I have unfinished business at this level, and I’m particularly pleased to be joining a great club like Flint, whom I nearly joined on a couple of occasions during my playing days. I’ve known ‘Fowls’ for a long time, as he played for me at Caernarfon. As soon as he started talking to me about his plans , it got me excited and I wanted to be part of it”

Danny Bell, who is already at the club, has also been appointed as a first-team coach.

The club have also released their pre-season friendly programme, starting a week next Saturday against Mold Alexandra. (Official club site / official club Twitter)
